New Shawl

Out of all my Birthday yarn I wanted to cast on something with my 300gm skein of Ton of Wool. So I ended up casting on the Rising Dawn shawl By Stephen West. Now I love the pattern and the yarn, but together....

When looking at the skein it seemed to have more grey/brown in it. Now it's looking very orange with very few pops of grey. I will keep going and if I don't fall in love with maybe I can gift it to someone.

Happy Knitting!

Birthday goodies

So many goodies to play with, between all my new yarn and books I will busy for quite some time. The only problem I have is what project to start first. I have been looking on Ravelry for a pattern that would suite the Ton of wool 4ply yarn, I'm leaning towards Rising Dawn by Stephen West. I can feel a case of castonitis coming on.

Monkey approves of my new cat shirt from my DB and DSIL.

Crafty mail

With the start of another very cold week here in Sydney I have my first pair of legwarmers, and I am already wearing them. The pattern was Legwarmers by Jane Richmond, and it's a free pattern on Ravelry. I knit them on 4mm needles using Madelinetosh Vintage.

I also had some extra lovely mail arrive today. I find crafty mail is the best way to start the week. I have one skein of sock yarn in the Ninja Cupcake colourway from GnomeAcres. And the new Christmas Town Kit from The Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery. I believe the first clue is sent out on the 22nd of July. And although the yarn is part of my Birthday present my DH let me have it early.

I hope where ever you are the week is kind to you.

Goodbye Harry

Yesterday my Husband and I had to say goodbye to our beloved Harry. Harry was nine and the life of the house. He was a true water baby, and loved playing ball. Although his idea of playing was catching the ball and not giving it back. He was incredibly stubborn and would always talk back.

When it came to playing with our three cats he was very gentle. And always got up from his bed to greet them. He was very much loved and will be very sorely missed.

RIP Boy xx

WIP Wednesday

As the temperature dropped in Sydney this week I realised that I didn't have any legwarmers. So I cast-on Leg Warmers by Jane Richmond using Madelinetosh Vinatge in a OOAK grey that I bought from Jimmy Beans Wool. I cast-on with 5mm needles and after only a couple of rows I could see it didn't look right, so I ripped it out and cast-on again with 4mm needles. I am now loving the way it's knitting up. I'm hoping that the cold weather will stay around longer enough for me to knit them up and also get some wear out of them.

Happy knitting.

Tea & knitting

After a very busy day of outside painting and cleaning it's so nice to sit and knit. I have cast-on vanilla socks using Stray Cat Socks yarn in the Candy cane twist colourway.  I absolutely love this yarn, I bought it back in November along with some Christmas yarn that I have already knit up.

I was hoping that tomorrow would contain a sleep-in, but we are getting ready to help my Mum move house next weekend, so between picking up a friends trailer and food shopping I will cross my fingers for nap or at least some down time. I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend.

FO Friday

I'm so in love with my new FO I want to knit another one. The pattern is the Sockhead Hat by Kelly McClure and it's a free pattern on Ravelry. The pattern called for 9 inches of stockinette stitch, but as I will never wear it folded over on itself I stopped at 6 inches and it's a perfect fit. I started on the 19th of June and finished it today. It was perfect car and TV knitting.

I'm planning on casting on another pair of socks before casting on another hat, but I've already been going through my stash to pick out some yarn.

If you are in the States I hope you have a fabulous 4th of July weekend. And if your in Australia try and stay warm.

Happy knitting and have a wonderful weekend.

WIP Wednesday

I know it's only Wednesday but it feels like Thursday. Which means it's going to be really tough when I have to get out of bed on Friday.

Anyway it's Wednesday and I have a active WIP. It's the Sockhead hat by Kelly McClure. I'm knitting it out of Bendigo Woollen Mills sock yarn that I dyed up myself and I'm knitting it on US 2½ - 3.0 mm needles. It's nice car/tv knitting.

And I'm also loving my project bag. I bought the bag from Addicted to sock knitting. It's a nice squishy bag you can fold over on itself and pop in your handbag. I should mention that the charm isn't included, but I think it's a perfect zipper pull for this bag. I'm hoping to have it finished this weekend so I can cast on another pair of socks.

Happy knitting.
